Six local 4-H members competed in the Area Cookery Contest held Feb. 27 at the Rayville Civic Center. Before they could compete, the members had to win their respective categories at the Parish Cookery Contests held on Nov. 4, 2017 and Dec. 2, 2017. The eight categories are Chicken, Rice-Main Dish, Rice-Any Other, Egg, Sweet Potato, Pecan, Ground Beef-Quick and Easy, and Ground Beef-Heart Healthy. The members were given the rules and requirements weeks prior to the competition, and brought their dishes completely cooked and chilled to the contests. The participants from Morehouse Parish that competed at the Area Cookery Contest were Braylon Cole (BCS), Lilly Scroggins (BCS), Jacob Scroggins (BCS), Macie Stover (BCS), Drake Dement (PVA), and Emery Bell Odom (BCS). Each one competes for either first place, second place, third place, blue ribbon, red ribbon, or white ribbon. All walked away with a ribbon or a placing. A big congratulation to those that participated this year.
