On Wednesday, Feb. 28 the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office received a call informing them that a fugitive from justice, Joseph Dearmond Jr., was staying at the Preferred Inn in Bastrop.

MPSO Chief James Mardis said when the officer arrived and knocked on the door, they arrested Dearmond, from Baton Rouge, La., and then searched the room. Deputies located a glass pipe in the back pocket of Dearmond's pants. Upon searching the room deputies found approximately 2.6 grams of heroin, 1.3 grams of meth and 97 dianabol pills (a steroid).

John D. Booksh II, from Lafayette, La., was also staying in the room and was arrested. Booksh was charged with possession of schedule I (heroin), possession of schedule II (meth) and possession of schedule III with intent to distribute.

Dearmond was arrested and charged with a fugitive from justice warrant, possession of schedule I (heroin), possession of schedule II (meth), possession of schedule III with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
