After 58 years of serving the community of Bastrop, Gibson's Cleaners is closing its doors.
Owners Gary and Randy Gibson said they will miss their loyal customers, but they have chosen to permanently close the doors of their business.
Randy said she has worked at Gibson's Cleaners, located at 214 S. Washington St., for 44 years and has had some memories there that she will never forget.
"We have been here a long time," she said. "We have raised our kids here. My baby is 45 years old now and she was three when I came to work here. It has been a good business and we will miss our customers. We have had some really good customers over the years."
Randy said the main reason they are closing is because business has been slow and the Gibson's are older and less energetic now.
"We are closing because we are tired," she said. "The business used to be booming. When the mill shut down so many people moved away. Customers used to use the cleaners regularly, now the need is not as great. I got to the point that I thought it would be best to shut it down."
The Gibson's future plans are to move to Lake Providence, where they have a camp.
"We are downsizing," she said. "He and I are both 66 and 67. We are old enough. We hope to sell our house and move."
