A man was held at gunpoint, after agreeing to give a stranger a ride from a local convenience store.

The Bastrop Police Department received a call at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20 reporting that the victim was asked to give a ride to a black male, Desmond Ford, at a gas station. Then after riding to Henry Street, Ford held the victim at gunpoint and forced him to drive to two gas stations to attempt to make cash withdrawals. At the second stop the victim managed to escape and report to the police.

Desmond Ford, 57A Eden St., was arrested and charged with armed robbery and kidnapping on Jan. 24.

Chief Allen Campbell wanted to commend Capt. Dewayne Reed for good detective work and the speedy arrest of Ford.
