CANEY LAKE — Winter has arrived with freezing temperatures and just about everything in the fish world is moving deep. Bass fishing is slow but some good ones have been caught in deep water. The best of the week weighed over 9 pounds and was caught on a plastic worm in watermelon red. The crappie bite is picking up with most caught down deep around submerged brush on shiners. As water temperatures continue to fall, look for best fishing to be out from the dam in 30 foot water. LAKE D’ARBONNE — Now that cold weather has arrived putting a chill on water temperatures, crappie are making their way to the deep channels with most caught just off the bottom on shiners. Bass are slow to fair with some caught on jigs fished slowly around deeper piers. The bream bite is off but catfish can be caught year round fishing cold worms on the flats. LAKE CLAIBORNE — Crappie are beginning to set up in the deep water out from the dam with some caught just off the bottom on shiners. What they lack in numbers they are making up for it in size with some real slabs biting. Bass have moved deep and jigs and soft plastics should be picking up a few. No report on stripers, catfish or bream this week. With the water 8-10 feet low, boat launching is limited to Area 2 at the State Park and at Pleasure Point. LAKE POVERTY POINT — Crappie fishing continues to gradually improve with best fishing still taking place in afternoons around the boat slips as well as the cut-offs at the south end of the lake.
