During the month of December, members of local churches come together at community nursing homes to spread holiday cheer with Country Christmas Stores, and this year several churches, Cherry Ridge Baptist Church among them, have collaborated to bring a store to Oak Woods on Saturday, December 2.

The Country Christmas Store has been put on by Cherry Ridge Baptist Church for many years now, and the residents enjoy it very much. People donate the majority of the items in the store which include personal products, candy, craft items, stuffed animals, and much more. The residents are able to get items for themselves or family members which are even gift wrapped by the store volunteers. These items the residents pick are given to them free of charge.

The Country Christmas Store enables residents to get out of their rooms and socialize with other people. There are other festivities as well, including children that walk the halls singing carols for all to enjoy.

Shelia Rallison, a volunteer from Cherry Ridge, said the residents very much enjoy the Christmas store. She said that it touches the hearts of the volunteers to see the residents so happy.

“We come to bless the residents and end up getting blessed ourselves,” Rallinson said.

The Christmas store gives a lot to the residents. Not only is it a way to get gifts for their families and each other, it is a way for the community to share the joy of giving and the true meaning of Christmas.
