The city of Bastrop has many resources for help in areas like health and education, which unfortunately many people do not know about, and Healthy Minds is trying to tackle this with their “Full Circle” event.
Healthy Minds is a local counseling center that helps many people, but Angela Nichols, Full Circle Founder, wants to help locals in more ways than just counseling. She said that many of their clients not only have counseling needs, but need help with education and other health areas as well. To help with this, she came up with the “Full Circle” idea wanting to help her clients with problems in all areas, hence the event name Full Circle.
“We want to develop the whole person,” Nichols said.
To do this, Healthy Minds collaborated with several other organizations in the community such as Delta Community College, the Girl Scouts, Edward Jones, the Bastrop Fire Department, and 211. Each organization had a station with information and free hand outs such as candy. The Fire Department even had smoke detectors and fire alarms. The event included free food, a DJ, and a hopper for the kids.
People had a good time and the organizations were happy to come together for such an important purpose. Monica Bayless, a 211 resource specialist, was excited to share about 211, the organization she assists which provides people with information about community resources and helps with needs like health, food, and clothes.
“I think this event is a wonderful collaboration of resources we have in Morehouse Parish,” Bayless said.
Angela Nichols was pleased to be able to hold this event, and she and the other organizations hope to continue their work towards helping the citizens of Bastrop develop to their full potential.
