The 14th Annual Blue Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, October 4, at St. Joesph Catholic Church, in Bastrop. Father Lijo Thomas celebrated the mass and gave the homily. Thomas, encouraged the police, fire, and emergency medical personnel on hand follow the ideals of their chosen professions, as guardian angels to the public Law Enforcement, Fire and Emergency Medical personnel from surrounding states and parishes attended the yearly event. Blue mass is offered as a time for people to pray for and honor all who protect us as First Responders – Fire, Law Enforcement and Medical Personnel. The “Blue Mass” is a tradition where the Police, Fire and EMS Responder personnel gather for a special celebration and blessing for their work on behalf of the community.
