Morehouse Parish – A woman from Mer Rouge was killed after the vehicle she was driving was rear-ended by another vehicle.

On June 28, 2017, shortly after 12:10 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle crash on US Hwy 165 approximately 7 miles north of Mer Rouge. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by 40-year-old Rosa Ramirez of Mer Rouge, was traveling north and was slowing to make a left turn onto a private drive. As the Pontiac was slowing it was struck from behind by a 2006 Chevrolet pickup, driven by 31-year-old Jessie White of Bastrop.

Ramirez, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner’s Office. There were two young children in the vehicle with Ramirez at the time of the crash. Both of the children were properly restrained in child restraints and were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

White, who was properly restrained in the crash, was not injured and was issued a citation for careless operation.

A routine toxicology sample was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.

In 2017, Troop F has investigated 18 fatal crashes resulting in 18 deaths.
