An early morning accident involving a fire engine and a farm truck kept part of the roadway around the Morehouse Parish Courthouse blocked until the early afternoon on Thursday.

According to Bastrop Police Chief Allen Campbell, the Bastrop Fire Department was responding to a fire on Julius Ave and was westbound at the intersection of Madison and Washington. The fire truck did have it's lights and sirens activated. A farm truck which was southbound, and according to witnesses, had a green light, was struck by the fire truck, ending up on the sidewalk and partially in a building on the square. The farm truck was operated by J.W. Scoggins Farms and was loaded with grain.

Campbell said that three people were transported to Morehouse General Hospital as a result of the accident. The driver of the fire truck, whose name has not been released, was ticketed for failure to yield, according to Campbell.

Diesel fuel which spilled during the accident kept the roadway closed until it could be cleaned up. The roadway was reopened at 2:10 P.M.
