Law officials, Special Olympics’ athletes step toward games

About 75 Special Olympics athletes in Morehouse Parish converged on the steps of the parish court house Tuesday morning before taking a ceremonial two-block walk together, escorted by Bastrop Police and Morehouse Sheriff patrol cars.

A Michigan couple were driving on the freeway in Dearborn, Mich., when they saw a kitten tossed from a speeding car. Ronald Haas and Niel Rishoi quickly stopped and picked up the kitten, who surprisingly was OK other than being “scared and panicked.” The couple then adopted her and named her Dora.

Morning Jolt: Bit by snake at Wal-Mart?

A man says he was bitten by a rattlesnake at a Wal-Mart in eastern Washington state. The man was in the outdoor gardening area and said he bent down to pick up a stick, but it turned out to be a rattlesnake. The snake wasn’t happy about being picked up and so bit the man, who was rushed to a hospital. The man survived but might have permanent damage to his hand.

Jury may add ‘some teeth’ on signs’ laws

It’s a problem so ubiquitous in Morehouse Parish that it’s easy to ignore: Signs illegally posted to utility poles in public right of ways.

Morehouse cancer fundraiser is Saturday

Arkansas driver killed in Morehouse accident

On Saturday, May 12 Louisiana State Police investigated a single-vehicle crash in Morehouse Parish that left an Arkansas man dead.

Adult ed to remain in area

Morehouse Parish residents learned this week that the Morehouse Parish Adult Learning Center will be closing on July 1. However, Louisiana Delta Community College Director of Workforce Development Bob Hammack said Friday there be a GED program in Morehouse Parish after July 1, as well as additional assistance.

Bastrop man arrested for aggravated incest

A 54-year-old Bastrop man was arrested on April 23 for allegedly molesting his five-year-old granddaughter.
