With the temperature soaring higher and the cost for the use of electricity steadily increasing, low income people and some of the elderly are greatly affected by the heat.
Pine Belt Multi-purpose Agency, a non-profit organizaiton, has come to the aid to help in this endeavor to distribute fans to the low income and elderly.
According to the program coordinator, “these fans are just what the people need. Many elderly people don’t have air in their homes and some have air but are trying to save on their electric bill.”
Pine Belt with the donations made by Morehouse Community Improvement Organization (MCIO) and WalMart purchased fans to be given to the low income and elderly. The Bastrop Fire Department and Terry Matthews, Police Jury president, also assisted with this project.
Persons who qualify for a fan may come by the Pine Belt office located in the Head Start Building at 1604 West Madison to fill out the proper application.
Any other organizations wishing to contribute to this worthy cause may contact the Pine Belt office at 281.5369.
