Morehouse Parish residents interested in learning more about the newest school to come to Bastrop will have an opportunity tonight at the Bastrop Visitor Center.
According to headmaster David James, an informational and enrollment meeting for the Bastrop Christian Academy will be held at 7 p.m. tonight.
“There is no Christian school in Morehouse Parish, and this will be a great alternative school,” James said. “All students cannot make it in traditional, public school.”
The school, which will be housed in the old daycare center across from WalMart, will include pre-K through twelfth grade and will use the Accelerated Christian Education program, or A.C.E. The goal of this program is to prepare children for the world today and give them the academic and spiritual tools necessary to achieve their God-given potential. Their are five basic laws of learning: a child must be at a level where he or she can perform, he or she must have reasonable goals, his or her learning must be controlled and must be motivated, his or her learning must be measurable and his or her learning must be rewarded.
“You may go to www.aceministries.com or www.schooloftomorrow.com and test your child,” James said.
James announced the faculty lineup would include Clara Haynes as principal/supervisor for the middle/high school classroom and teacher for French and English, Robert Crowe as the middle/high school classroom monitor and journalism and social studies teacher, Debra Fortune as the elementary classroom monitor, Twylia Joiner as the kindergarten teacher, Shirley Chunn as the kindergarten monitor, Stacie McGough Pratt as the pre-kindergarten teacher. There will also be a principal/supervisor for the elementary classroom and to teach sign language.
He said other staff may be added as needed.
The school is also in need of tables, chairs, microwaves, school supplies and other items. James said they would be willing to come and pick up any donated items. If items are not needed, they will sell them in a garage sale and use that money for other needed items.
