JV: Bastrop 36, Ouachita 20

In a game reminiscent of last year's Parkway-Bastrop scorefest, Bastrop upended Ouachita 36-20 in junior varsity action Friday night.

Brandon Harris directed Parkway to a 79-56 victory over the Rams last season. Had the Rams and Lions been given a little more time, they may have challenged that point total as they combined for 56 points in two nine-minute quarters.

Bastrop put together and 11-play, 70-yard to open the scoring. Quarterback Jerry Powell kept from a yard out to finish the five-minute, 30-second drive and also ran the 2-point conversion.

Ouachita needed just three plays to get on the board as quarterback Devion Warren scampered 65 yards to the left side. Cephas Gix ran the 2-point conversion, tying the game at 8-8.

Continuing the frantic pace, both teams scored in the final minute of the first quarter.

Powell dashed 48 yards on a fake handoff and threw to Joshua Doaty on the conversion.

Warren, who racked up 135 yards and two touchdowns on only two carries, answered with a 70-yard run. Skydarrio Johnson broke up the 2-point pass, enabling the Rams to maintain a 16-14 advantage.

Tight-rope walking down the right sideline, Doaty's 14-yard reception opened the second quarter scoring. Trevious Crossley added the conversion, upping the Rams' lead to 24-14.

Bastrop extended its lead to 30-14 on Antwon Watson's 22-yard fumble return with five minutes to play.

Ouachita got back on the board on a 9-yard run by Gix with 20.5 seconds remaining.

Making the final play of the game count, freshman Dezzie Holmes sprinted 70 yards to the endzone.
