  • Earlier this week on Aug. 25, an arrest was made at the West End Church on Dolphus Street in Bastrop for charges of simple battery, illegal carrying of a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm.
According to the arrest affidavit, the Bastrop Police Department was dispatched to Dolphus Street where a 17-year-old male wanted to file a report because a simple battery had been committed on him and a gun had been pulled.
The affidavit states that the 17-year-old was at the church when he got into an argument with the suspect, Marcus L. Scott, inside the church. During the argument, the affidavit states that the 17-year-old was grabbed by the throat with one hand and pushed over a bench before he was released. However, the argument continued outside, where, according to the report, the 17-year-old said a small hand gun was pulled.
The arresting officer located the suspect at the church where he was advised of his Miranda rights. The suspect stated that he lost his temper and grabbed the 17-year-old around the throat and pushed him over a bench.
Because of the 17-year-old's claims of a gun being pulled, the officer asked to search the suspect's pockets and consent was given, but the suspect pulled out a small .25 automatic Raven Arms pistol before the search was conducted. According to the affidavit, there were five rounds in the pistol's clip and one in the barrel. The suspect then admitted that, due to his anger, he pointed the gun at the 17-year-old.
Captain Steve Rawls served as the arresting officer.
Marcus L. Scott has appeared in court for his 72-hour-hearing. Bond was set at $500 on the charge of simple battery, $5,000 on the charge of illegal carrying of a firearm and $20,000 on the charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.
