Prairie View at Riverdale, 7 p.m.
Prairie View officially kicks off the football season Friday night against the Riverdale Rebels. Kickoff time is 7 p.m. in Coushatta.
Both teams took part in the PVA Jamboree last Friday.
Prairie View split its two games, besting Claiborne Academy 12-8 and falling to River Oaks 14-0.
Riverdale dropped a 14-6 verdict to River Oaks and bowed to Riverfield 14-0.
Prairie View closed out the Claiborne tilt with an impressive 13-play, 81-yard drive, capped by Hunter Carpenter's 1-yard touchdown run with less than a minute to play.
Carpenter carried four times for 13 yards and caught two passes for 27 more.
Quarterback Lucas Crockett completed 10-of-18 passes for 139 yards, including a 10-yard strike to Tristen Shanks on the Spartans' opening drive. Crockett also rushed for a team-high 24 stripes on five attempts.
Cole Bryan turned in a superb effort on both sides of the ball, hauling in four passes for 87 yards and intercepting two passes. Drake Wilmore added two catches for 13 yards.
Against River Oaks, the Spartans started the night with two empty possessions. Crockett's 20-yard pass to Wilmore on the final play of the game was Prairie View's longest gain against the Mustangs.
Prairie View will begin the season at full strength as senior running back/linebacker Hunter Green returns to the lineup after sitting out the jamboree with a shoulder injury.
Riverdale struggled offensively in both of its jamboree outings.
Zack Givens' 53-yard pick-6 gave the Rebels the early lead against River Oaks, but the Mustangs scored twice in the final 1:36 to get the win.
Tailback Martin Gould accounted for the bulk of Riverdale's offense with five carries for 15 yards vs. River Oaks and 20 yards on eight tries vs. Riverfield.
Riverdale won last year's meeting with Prairie View, 16-12, in Bastrop.
Next week, the Spartans return home to play University Academy (formerly Cenla Christian).
