Prairie View 15, Riverdale 0
Jeri Harper struck out nine of the 11 batters she faced in an abbreviated no-hitter as the Prairie View Lady Spartans eased past the Riverdale Lady Rebels 15-0 Thursday afternoon in Game 1 of the PVA Tournament.
Prairie View (9-3) scored seven runs on one hit in the first and eight runs on four hits in the second.
Harper reached on a leadoff throwing error in the bottom of the first and Amery Clark was grazed by a pitch. Both runners scored when Bailey Ryder reached third following a pair of errors.
That was more than enough run support for Harper, who allowed only two base runners on a two-out error in the second and a misplayed popop to start the third. Neither Riverdale runner advanced past first base.
Prairie View loaded the bases with nobody out in the second.
Rebekah Lenard and Morgan Grayson reached on mishandled third strikes and Tabor Moyers walked. Haley Yarbrough followed with an RBI single. Later in the inning, Cayli Christmas and Hope Lindeman smacked two-run singles and Grayson added a run-scoring single.
Yarbrough went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored to pace the Lady Spartans offensively.
Prairie View advances to play River Oaks in Thursday's 6 p.m. nightcap.
The nine-team tournament resumes on Saturday at 8 a.m. with the championship game scheduled for 7:15 p.m
