The July 29 committee meetings for the Morehouse Parish School Board largely saw routine business discussed prior to the full board meeting that will take place on August 5 at 5:30 p.m.
One of the agenda items discussed at the Student Affairs and Personnel committee meeting was changing the start time for school board meetings to 6 p.m., in part because of the longer school days, but the motion failed and will not be presented on August 5.
Dr. David Nordman presented an informational report about the Work Read Community program and how it will be implemented at Bastrop High School as part of a hybrid class with ACT prep. During the upcoming school year, Nordman explained that the 11th grade students are a priority when it comes to the implementation.
"This year the extreme call to hands right now is our 11th graders," Nordman said. "They are the ones who will be taking the ACT in February, and we need to do as much as we can for them at this point and work backwards."
Also discussed at the meetings were new bus routes, which are not yet complete but should be by August 7 at the first parish-wide registration date, a request to advertise for bids for new buses again and information regarding the school system's property and equipment insurance policies.
Parish wide registration dates will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 7 to 8 at the Student Services Center, formerly the Bastrop Learning Academy, at 1607 Martin Luther King in Bastrop. On these dates, parents should receive a packet of information which will include student bus information, school times, a school year calendar and the necessary registration forms. A full release about the registration dates will appear in the Saturday, August 2 edition of the Enterprise.
