  • High school football officially arrives Monday with teams from throughout the state taking the field for the first day of practice.
Sterlington High seniors Ross Lambert, Logan Jinks, Sam Lowery and Trey McDougle shared their thoughts on the upcoming season earlier this week:
NOWN: How did you spend your summer?
Ross Lambert: Coming up here (to the fieldhouse) and working out and playing baseball. Between playing for the school and the Marucci team with coach (Randy) Carr, I played a lot of summer league baseball.
Logan Jinks: Mostly, I was either working at Brookshire's or up here working out. I'm a cashier and a customer clerk at Brookshire's.
NOWN: What are your favorite and least favorite parts of preseason camp?
Sam Lowery: Running 110s is my least favorite. My favorite part is getting to max out with coach (Jeremy) Many.
Trey McDougle: I love working out in the weight room. My least favorite part would have to be the running.
NOWN: What are the Panthers' keys to success this season?
Lambert: We've been talking a lot about rising up and fighting. We have to play with total effort, keep working hard and stay on the grind.
Jinks: Hard work and the fact that everybody knows what they are supposed to be doing.
We can rotate fairly easily if somebody goes down. We know we can rely on each other because the guy next to you is going to do his job.
NOWN: What is the biggest improvement you have made over the summer?
Lowery: I've lost a little weight, so I've gotten quicker.
McDougle: My 40 time went from 5.8 to 5.2. Coach Many put me on a routine and it's been working pretty good.
NOWN: Outside of football, what is something you hope to accomplish during your senior year?
Lambert: I'm trying to get my ACT score up. Hopefully, I'll be able to go to LSU for academics.
I plan on really working hard in baseball. My last year of playing baseball is really important to me.
Other than football, my focus is on getting my grades up and baseball.
Jinks: I took some tough classes last year and my grade point average went from 3.5 to 3.2. I really want to get my grades back up to a 3.5 so I will be eligible for TOPS.
NOWN: Which game are you most looking forward to?
Page 2 of 2 - Lowery: I'm looking forward to the Winnfield game because they gave us a pretty good whipping last year.
McDougle: I would have to say Winnfield. They're a good team and I'm looking forward to what they bring. It's going to be a good challenge.
