As of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, jury selection for the trial of S. Dale Turner of Morehouse on charges of second degree murder continued for the third straight day.

On Monday, the Enterprise was advised that jury selection for the trial would begin that afternoon, and it continued on both Tuesday and Wednesday. As of press time, it was not yet apparent whether selection would continue on Thursday or when the trial would be able to start.

Turner was originally arrested on charges of first degree murder on December 1, 2012 by the Sheriff's Office for the murder of 79-year-old Billy McCready, Turner's ex-father-in-law. The crime took place at McCready's home on November 29, 2012.

Morehouse Parish resident Cindy Owens was also arrested in December 2012 on charges of first degree murder in connection with the case. As of July 30, Owens has not yet been to trial and will next appear in court on September 2 for a hearing and to determine the status of her case. Her last court date was June 24.
