Terry Lee Brandley, age 19, appeared before Judge Daniel Ellender at the Morehouse Parish Courthouse for his 72-hour hearing on Tuesday, July 22. At the hearing, Brandley's next court date was set for Aug. 25. According to an affidavit and warrant filed and recorded on July 17, his bond is fixed at $250,000 on his first charge, second degree homicide, and at $100,000 for the second charge, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Brandley stated that he planned to hire his own attorney but was advised that he could fill out paperwork to determine if he was eligible for a public defender.
Brandley is accused of murdering Jimmy Lee Davis at 529 E. Jefferson Ave. in Bastrop on July 13 and was arrested on July 19 at the Bastrop Police Department.
Cooper's next court appearance scheduled
George H. Cooper III of Monroe also appeared in court, but his hearing was postponed until November 30 because the court is still awaiting lab analysis. Cooper was arrested by the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office in June on charges of distribution of schedule III and conspiracy.
