Volunteers with the Morehouse Cancer Fund are in the planning stages for their Seventh Annual Ride for Hope.
The Morehouse Cancer Fund began in 1989 and serves as a way to help those who have been diagnosed with cancer in Morehouse Parish with the cost of day-to-day living by helping them pay their rent and utilities and also assist with the cost of pain medication, groceries and gas. The fund is non-profit organization under the Quad Board which also oversees the Crippled Children, Salvation Army and Mental Health Funds.
The Ride for Hope is a fundraiser that is co-sponsored by the City of Bastrop and Premiere Hospice. The ride will be held from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Bastrop Municipal Center, 1901 Moeller Dr. All money raised from the event goes to the Morehouse Cancer Fund.
It will start with a motorcycle ride through Morehouse Parish. The ride is expected to last about two and a half hours. Antique cars are also welcome. Registration for the ride will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. the day of. Registration is $25 per bike and $10 for a passenger. The fee includes a t-shirt and a lunch which is guaranteed for those who preregister by Sept. 5. Entry forms are available at the Morehouse Cancer Fund's Facebook page.
The Annual Little Miss Hope Beauty Pageant will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., there will be food, entertainment and onsite fundraisers including a silent auction which will include items from the community. They will have a 50-50 drawing and door prizes throughout the day.
At 12:30 p.m., cancer survivors in attendance will be recognized. There will also be a dedication honoring all of the Morehouse Parish residents who are battling cancer, are cancer survivors and those who have lost the fight. Names of cancer survivors and those who have cancer can be given to Karen Trippe at 283.5175 so that they can be recognized at the fundraiser.
