  • At 6 p.m. on August 18, a back-to-school bash for the Morehouse Parish School system will be held in the auditorium at Bastrop High School. This event will allow school administrators, teachers, parish leaders and students to celebrate returning to school the following day, Tuesday, August 19.
According to Dr. George Noflin Jr., superintendent of Morehouse Parish schools, event organizers have been working on planning the event for a while and have been able to secure an "outstanding" guest speaker.
R.V. Brown, chaplain for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and an associate evangelist with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, will address the audience during the bash and will also be appearing at an area church on the Sunday prior to the event.
Dr. Noflin said that the public is invited to the bash and that invitations will also be sent to community leaders, local representatives at both the city and state level and school board members.
At the bash, school supplies will be given out to the children in attendance and the theme for the upcoming school year will take center stage.
"We're excited," Noflin said. "We're going to emphasize the triple H's that were highlighted at a previous meeting: Hope, Healing and moving to new Heights."
