The Rose Theatre located at 102 East Jefferson Ave. in Bastrop is hosting two Children's Theatre Workshops for grades first through sixth.
The children will be putting on a performance of “Happily Ever After” which will be a collection of excerpts from different fairy tales including “Cinderella,” “The Wizard of Oz” and “Alice in Wonderland.” The workshops will be directed by student directors, Molly Gregory, a junior English major at Louisiana State University, and Peyton Churchwell, a senior at Bastrop High School.
“I think its important to get your kids into theatre,” Director Molly Gregory said. “Or even to give them the option. It helped me break out of my shell. I became more sociable. It helped me later on, too. Even now, applying for a job.”
The first workshop will be held 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 14 through 18, and a second workshop will be held Monday through Thursday, July 21 through 24. After completing the workshop, the children will put on three performances. Performance dates are set for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26 and a matinee showing at 2 p.m. on Sunday the 27.
Registration for the workshops will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 12. There is a $75 registration fee.
