  • Sterlington closed out its summer basketball season with four games earlier this week.
On Monday at Delhi High School, the Panthers dropped a pair of 2-point decisions to Madison Parish and Rayville.
In Tuesday's action at Cedar Creek in Ruston, the Panthers collected wins over Caldwell Parish and West Ouachita.
Sterlington missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer vs. Madison Parish and made a 3-pointer as the final horn sounded vs. Rayville.
We competed in both games,” coach Kevin Caballero said of Monday's contests. “It was good for us to play two quality 3A teams.”
On Tuesday, the Panthers had little trouble with a Caldwell squad which was missing three starters. In the nightcap, the Panthers completed a three-game summer sweep against the Chiefs.
West Ouachita has a good team this year,” Caballero said. “They beat Ouachita at ULM's team camp. We played well against them all three times.”
Overall, Caballero was pleased with what the Panthers were able to accomplish over the summer.
We had a good summer,” Caballero said. “You always find out a good deal about your team during the summer.”
Two guards, in particular, showed significant improvement over the summer.
Jaylan King, I thought, really played well this summer. He was thinking about focusing on football, but had a great summer once he came out for basketball. As a junior, he could really contribute to this team,” Caballero said. “D'Adrienne Glass has had a great summer. He's going to be a senior. Now it's his time.
Those two really improved this summer.”
Tuesday's games marked the end of formal team activities, but the gym will remain open for involuntary workouts.
We're still going to work out some of the basketball guys when we can. Coach (Antonio) Sterling will be in the gym a lot,” Caballero said. “The football guys can come work out, too, especially during the summer.”
