Morehouse Parish Library's OverDrive, which is the library's virtual library, will soon having streaming videos as well as a digital reading room for kids.
New features coming to OverDrive are a separate portal for kids also known as a digital reading room.
“eBooks are not just for adults, and we believe this site will help us highlight some of the great children's content that we have to offer,” Sharon Grant, Digital Branch Manager at Kitsap Regional Library where the digital reading room was piloted said. “More importantly, we believe this site will save people time because it effectively highlights books by reading levels, age groups and interests.”
New streaming videos will be offered through Hoopla. Hoopla partners with local libraries to bring patrons thousands of movies, television, music and audiobook titles for free.
These new features can be expected to upload to the library's website soon.
OverDrive is a virtual library available to library patrons that allows them to check out up to four e-books or audio books from their computers or other devices. In addition to e-books, there is also movies, audio books and music available for temporary download.
Visit www.youseemore.com/morehouse to set up an account and download OverDrive. It will ask for a library card number. Once an account is set up, library users just have to click the OverDrive icon and sign in. Audio and e-books may be kept for up to 30 days and then will automatically be deleted. Movies can be downloaded for seven days. Library users have a weekly download limit on MP3s.
“This takes away the worry of getting charged late fees,” Library Director Ellen Highsmith said. “I'd love to see more people take advantage of this.”
If anyone needs assistance setting up an account or syncing it to a device, the library is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday.
