Chemin-A-Haut State Park will be holding kayak tours of Bayou Bartholomew this weekend.
There will be three different departure times, one on Friday and two on Saturday. On Friday, kayaks will depart at 5:30 p.m. for a sunset float. On Saturday, kayaks will depart at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Participants will get to ride through the park in a trailer much like a hay ride. The kayak tour will begin at the boat launch in the park. It will be about a three hour tour of the bayou.
“We'll go north upstream as far as possible, then double back,” Manager Russ Brantley said. “Just like Gilligan's Island, its a three hour tour, minus the shipwreck part.”
It is $20 to rent a craft, a kayak or canoe, and there is a $2 entry fee per person. Paddles and life jackets are included with the rental. Children must be 8 years of age or older to participate.
To sign up, contact the office at Chemin-A-Haut State Park at 283.0812. Saturday morning was the only slot full as of press time.
