At 2 p.m. Saturday, the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office was notified by the Collinston Police Department that the CPD was in pursuit of a vehicle headed toward Mer Rouge.

The vehicle did not pull over after failing to stop at a traffic stop in Collinston and proceeded to accelerate to over 100 miles per hour.

Sheriff's deputies headed to Mer Rouge to assist. The driver of the vehicle fled into the Mer Rouge Pecan Grove area and was finally apprehended in a cornfield.

The driver was identified as Dylan Stauffer, age 18, of Calhoun. He was taken into custody without further incidence, and no injuries were reported. Stauffer was charged with speeding in excess of 100 mph and resisting by flight.

Stauffer was released Monday on a $1,500 bond.

“Instead of just pulling over and taking the ticket, he's now having having to pay bond and court costs,” Sheriff Mike Tubbs said. “This all comes down to extremely poor judgement. It was a very costly mistake.”
