Bastrop Lady Rams' softball coach Jennifer Hickman is calling for all former Lady Rams' softball players to come out of retirement — only for a couple of hours — to help benefit the current program.
Bastrop High's current softball team is enlisting some former Lady Rams to come out of retirement for one day.
The first-ever Bastrop High Softball Alumni Tournament will be held Saturday, June 28, starting at 11 a.m.
Bastrop High softball coach Jennifer Hickman, who hopes to make the tournament an annual event, says the tournament will be a fastpitch event.
“This is the start of something fun and memorable,” said Hickman, a former All-State shortstop for the Lady Rams. “I know we are all out of sync with fastpitch softball. However, that will be the joy of the event.”
The number of games in the tournament will depend on the number of former player who register. Besides having the opportunity to play against one another, the alumni will have the opportunity to play the 2015 Lady Rams.
Proceeds from the tournament will be used for the Lady Rams' upcoming season.
“The team needs new uniforms, a batting cage and other small amenities,” Hickman said.
Registration is $25 per person, which includes $10 for a tournament T-shirt and a $15 fee to help support the Lady Rams.
Admission fee is $5 and a concession stand will be in operation.
A small jumper will be available for children on the Magnet School playground. Monitors will be on hand to supervise the jumper.
To register, mail a check or money order for $25 to Coach Jennifer Hickman, 4877 Oveta Dr., Bastrop, LA 71220. Checks should be made out to the Ram Athletic Foundation (Softball). Participants are asked to include their T-shirt size and the name they would like to have printed on the back of their shirt.
Any questions may be directed to Jennifer Hickman at 348.2750 or via Facebook.
ALL-NELA: Bastrop landed three players on the All-Northeast Louisiana softball team as selected by the Monroe News-Star.
Representing the Lady Rams on the team are pitcher Kenyshae Beasley, infielder Tia Coleman and utility player Chelsea Fagan.
All three players will return for the Lady Rams next season.
