All-District 2-4A Baseball Team
Bastrop was awarded seven spots, including three first-team selections, on the All-District 2-4A baseball team.
Sophomore Jerry Powell is the first-team first baseman, while senior Maclendon Sharp and junior Gavin Pollock are listed as utility players.
District champion and state runner-up Neville and state semifinalist West Ouachita lead the way with seven first-team honorees apiece, followed by the Rams with three and Franklin Parish with one.
West Ouachita senior pitcher Jordan Antley is the Most Valuable Player, while Paul Guerriero is Coach of the Year.
Powell led the Rams in on base percentage (.455), slugging (.486), doubles (6), runs scored (22) and tied for the team lead in batting average (.368), hits (28) and home runs (1). He also drove in 14 runs. Seeing spot duty on the mound, the righthander was 2-0 in eight appearances.
Sharp, a lefthanded pitcher/center fielder, produced a .250 batting average with a .395 on base percentage. He drew a team-high 16 walks, scored 15 runs and drove in 12. Pitching better than his 1-6 record would indicate, Sharp compiled a 3.00 ERA, while striking out 49 batters in 44 1/3 innings.
Pollock, a repeat first-team All-District selection, tied with Powell for the team lead in batting average (.368) and hits (28). His season line also includes at .444 on base percentage, a .434 slugging rate and 13 RBI. In addition to handling the catching duties, Pollock was the Rams' Game 3 starter in district play.
Bastrop's second team honorees are junior righthanded pitcher Tristen Shanks, sophomore outfielder Skadarryo Johnson, and a pair of utility players, sophomore Dollar Ridgell and junior Cody Kinnaird.
Shanks fashioned a 4-3 record with a 3.21 ERA. Amassing a staggering 64 punchouts in 43 2/3 innings, Shanks walked 22 and allowed 50 hits. Offensively, he led the team with six stolen bases.
Johnson closed out the campaign with a .294 batting average, a .455 on base percentage and a .411 slugging percentage.
Ridgell put together a .289 batting average and a .429 on base percentage while scoring 13 runs.
Kinnaird posted a .255 batting average with a .382 on base percentage, 14 runs scored and eight RBI.
