On Monday, May 19, Dustin Lewis Rainwater appeared before Judge Alvin Sharp at the Morehouse Parish Courthouse for his 72-hour hearing.
At the hearing, bond was set for $250,000. When Judge Sharp asked Rainwater if he had an attorney and if he could afford an attorney, Rainwater replied, "No, sir."
Rainwater, age 32, was arrested on May 15 by Lt. Scott Culp of the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office on charges of second degree murder. He is accused of shooting his wife, Ashley Davis, age 29, at his residence, 4335 Dew Drop Rd., early the same morning.
According to an affidavit filled out to support Rainwater's instant arrest, the MPSO received a 911 call from Rainwater at his residence, and the suspect stated that he had shot his wife. When deputies arrived on the scene, the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
The affidavit also states that witnesses at the scene advised the MPSO that the victim was shot as she entered the carport door of the residence.
The criminal history reported on the affidavit includes possession of meth, aggravated assault with a firearm and possession of schedule 2 narcotics. No pending charges were presented.
Dustin Rainwater will face arraignment at the Morehouse Parish Courthouse at 9:30 a.m., June 24.
