  • Bastrop High senior Desire McHenry is a double state champion.
McHenry won the 100-meter dash and the 200m dash Saturday afternoon in the LHSAA/State Farm Track & Field Meet at Bernie Moore Stadium on the campus of LSU.
A Northwestern State University signee, McHenry was the No. 1 in both events. She did not disappoint, crossing the finish line first in 12.03 seconds in the 100m and setting the standard with a 24.75 readout in the 200m.
McHenry entered the meet as the pre-meet favorite in both the 100m and 200m.
As expected, the 100m was closely-contested as McHenry edged out a McDonogh #35 teammates Marcquita Stalbert (12.13) and Nicole Henderson (12.16). Daja Guidry of Northside was fourth at 12.20, Imona Mulmore finished fifth at 12.23 and Daijah Washington of Lutcher was sixth at 12.40.
McHenry and Stalbert (24.84) were also 1-2 in the 200m, with Mulmore in third at 25.19. Rounding out the scoring, Guidry was fourth at 25.32, followed by Washington at 25.36 and Henderson at 25.78.
Bastrop finished eighth in the 4 x 100m relay as Destini Davis, Jalijah Wheeler, Gray and Rosalyn Carson produced a time of 50.68. Jawane Jenkins, Daijah Washington, Taylor Panye and Mareisha Riley set the pace with a winning readout of 48.94.
The Lady Rams did not fare as well in their initial event of the day as the 4 x 200m relay team was disqualified.
In the boys division, Bastrop has eight points as Johnnie Marsaw placed fourth in the shot put and the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200m relays teams took fifth.
Marsaw threw 49-02.50. Taylor Fondal of Westgate won the event with a distance of 52-04.50.
Isaiah Graham, Trevious Crossley, Jamari Payne and Ch'kilas Calhoun were timed at 1:28.09 in the 4 x 200m relay.
Northside edged out Edna Karr in a photo finish for first place.
Lionel Alfred, Alton Smothers, Trevon Sheksnider and Tevin Johnson produced a winning time of 1:27.41 for the Vikings, just .07 seconds ahead of the Edna Karr foursome of Desmond Holmes, Najeé Robinson, Kaylon Beverly and Edward Davis.
    Bastrop's same four athletes from the 4 x 200m put together a time of 42.55 in the 4 x 100m relay.
Edna Karr won the 4 x 100 with Holmes, Beverly, Robinson and Glenn Irons teaming up for a 42.14 readout.
Christian Doaty placed seventh — two spots better than his pre-meet seed — in the javelin for the Rams with a throw of 142-01.
