  • Morehouse Parish summer school program approved

  • One of the items approved at the May 6 Morehouse Parish School Board meeting was the 2014 parish summer school program for fourth through twelfth grades.
    Summer school is slated to run from June 2 through June 26 and will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m Monday through Friday.
    According to a parent fact sheet discussing the program and its policies, the cost of summer school for MPSB students will be covered through a 21st Century Grant. All other attendees must pay the MPSB $175, via cashier's check or money order, for each class attended.
    Parents must provide transportation to their child's neighborhood school where buses will pick students up and take them to the summer classes. Students in the towns of Bonita, Mer Rouge and Collinston will be picked up at and returned to their local post office.
    Grades four through eight LEAP remediation students will attend summer school on the Morehouse Junior High School campus while grades six through twelve will attend Bastrop High School for credit recovery and end-of-course remediation.
    The guidelines for summer school state that students must wear the standard uniform of their regular school, and that the current Morehouse Parish School Board policies for discipline will be followed.
    Summer school daily schedule:
    First session: 8 to 10:00 a.m.
    Break: 10 to 10:15 a.m.
    Enrichment: 10:15 to 10:45 a.m.
    Lunch: 11 to 11:30 a.m.
    Second session: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
