West Ouachita 9, Bastrop 1

Jordan Antley carried a shutout into the seventh inning and went 1-for-3 with two RBI at the plate as West Ouachita topped Bastrop 9-1 Thursday night in a first round Class 4A playoff game.

West Ouachita (26-9), the No. 2 seed, closed out the regular season by sweeping a three-game District 2-4A series from the Rams. When Bastrop (11-19) drew the No. 31 seed, the two sides were forced to play again.

West Ouachita went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first when Clay Labeff legged out a one-out, bunt single, moved into scoring position on Cody Street's two-out walk and crossed home on Spencer Hemphill's RBI single to left.

Breaking the game open, the Chiefs extended their lead to 5-0 with a four-run second.

Brandon Hobbs doubled and was safe at third on Austin Russell's fielder's choice bunt. Batting from the No. 9 hole, Antley plated Hobbs with a sacrifice bunt.

Back to the top of the lineup, Zach Watson lined an RBI double to left and Labeff punched a run-scoring single to right.

One out later, Street's RBI double to right field upped the margin to 5-0.

Antley's two-out double chased home Chris Crowson, who drew a leadoff walk, in the fifth.

West Ouachita added three in the sixth, highlighted by Russell's two-out RBI single.

Antley allowed only three base runners — none of which advanced past first base — until Jerry Powell led off the seventh with a home run over the center field fence.

Tristen Shanks singled leading off the fourth for the Rams' only other hit.

Antley struck out seven and walked one. Watson recorded the final three outs on eight pitches.

West Ouachita collected 11 hits, led by Labeff with three singles. Hobbs doubled and singled, Russell supplied a pair of singles, Watson and Antley doubled and Street and Hemphill singled.

Bastrop starter Maclendon Sharp allowed seven runs (four earned) on nine hits through five innings before giving way to Shanks in the sixth.

West Ouachita advances to play the winner of Friday's game between No. 18 Assumption and No. 15 Crowley.
