Both the residents and staff at the Lagniappe Healthcare Skilled Nursing Facility in Bastrop have been supporting Relay for Life through fundraisers held at the facility.
According to Bridgette Holmes, the leader of the Lagniappe team, the group hosted a silent auction featuring Easter baskets in April. Staff, residents and family members were able to bid on the baskets. Concession stands selling hot dogs and Frito pies were also held in the facility for staff and residents with a desire to support the American Cancer Society while enjoying a snack.
Staff members donated $1 on multiple Wednesdays to wear jeans to work and sold Relay for Life t-shirts to support the fight against cancer.
“Being a healthcare provider, we think Relay for Life is a great cause to support,” Holmes said.
Team Lagniappe did not set a definite fundraising goal but will do all they can to raise as much money as possible under the guidance of Holmes and Lagniappe Administrator Amanda Boatright.
On the night of Relay, the team will be on-hand selling sausage on a bun to the public.
Relay for Life will be held at 6 p.m. on May 9 at Bastrop High School. This year's theme is Mardi Gras.
