Girls Region I-4A Track & Field Meet

Desire McHenry has regained her place among the elite sprinters in the state.

Securing her reservations for next Saturday's State Track & Field Meet at LSU, the Northwestern State University-bound senior from Bastrop High swept through her two individual races at Wednesday's Region I-4A Meet at Benton High.

After a promising sophomore year, McHenry struggled through a series of injuries and illnesses as a junior. Judging by Wednesday's performance, it's safe to say that McHenry is healthy going into her final high school meet.

McHenry was clocked at 12.22 in the 100m and was timed at 25.30 in her best event, the 200m. Brittany Black of Benton was second in both races, with readouts of 12.62 in the 100m and 26.35 in the 200m. Bastrop's Rosalyn Carson added a sixth-place finish in the 200m.

McHenry also teamed with Devondria Jones, Jessica Gray and Sharay Hyde for a second-place result in the 4 x 400m relay at 4:13.05.

The top three finishers in each event are eligible for the State Meet.

Bastrop scored 10 points in the 400m dash as Gray was third at 1:03.88, followed by Hyde in fourth at 1:04.87.

Bastrop was third in the 4 x 100m and 4 x 200m relays.
