Boys Region I-4A Track & Field Meet

Bastrop made its presence felt in the sprint relays at the Region I-4A Track & Field Meet held Wednesday at Benton High School.

Carrying the baton in both events for the Rams, Isaiah Graham, Trevious Crossley, Jamari Payne and Ch'kilas Calhoun generated winning times of 42.96 in the 4 x 100 meters and 1:29.02 in the 4 x 200m.

Terrell Russell, David Lee, Gabe Tumey and Andre Johnson of West Ouachita were a close second in both races, with readouts of 43.14 in the 4 x 100m and 1:29.15 in the 4 x 200m.

The top three finishers in each event qualified for the State Meet at LSU's Bernie Moore Stadium on Saturday, May 10.

Also qualifying for the Rams were Johnnie Marsaw, second in the shot put (45-08.25); and Christian Doaty, third in the javelin (142-00).

Marsaw was also fourth in the discus at 118-00.

Bastrop received two-fourth place finishes in the running events as Xavier Latting was timed at 41.03 in the 300m hurdles and the 4 x 400m relay unit of Devin Brown, Graham, Antwone Green and Ch'kilas Calhoun were clocked at 3:37.03.

Graham and Crossley were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 100m with readouts of 11.02 and 11.22.

Payne added a sixth-place point in the 200m (22.84) to wrap up the Rams' scoring.

Coming off of the District 2-4A championship, West Ouachita claimed the Regional title with 98.3 points. Benton was second with 87, followed by North DeSoto with 68.3, Northwood with 58, Franklin Parish with 51, Bastrop with 50, DeRidder with 43, Wossman with 26, Neville with 20 and Tioga with 18. Sixteen different teams scored points in the meet.

West Ouachita received the maximum 18 points in the 400m as Johnson edged out Lee 50.56-50.94. The Chiefs' other first-place finish came in the 4 x 400m relay (3:26.00).

Benton had two double winners as Dorsavian Williams claimed the 100m (10.90) and 200m (22.19) and Drake Heinz ruled the distances with readouts of 4:37.83 in the 1600m and 10:13.18 in the 3200m.

North DeSoto's Christian Boyd, the reigning Class 3A state champion in the hurdles, won the 110m (14.70) and the 300m (39.70).

Rounding out the winners in the running events was Chase Slater of North DeSoto in the 800m (2:03.41).

Northwood's Kwaume McGee doubled up on first-place medals in the field, winning the long jump (21-9) and high jump (6-2).

Other winners in the field events were Colin Milton of Benton in the javelin (154-00), Josh Hall of Northwood in the shot put (46-00), Elbert Marbury of Leesville in the discus (122-05), Cullen Zaunbrecher of DeRidder in the pole vault (12-00) and Jerome Wynn of Fair Park in the triple jump (46-00.50).
