Pine Grove Elementary's The Groovy Grove team is working to raise money for Relay for Life.
For the month of April, the school held a bake sale every Thursday and collected pennies. The pennies were collected for Pennies from Heaven, and the home room with the most pennies got a pizza party.
The school also sold t-shirts and power bracelets. A bike-a-thon was held for grades Pre-k to second grade.
On April 24, the school had a Sponge the Principal event where whoever donated a dollar got to throw wet sponges at the principal. On April 25, they had an obstacle course with a hopper. The school also sold cancer awareness tattoos and popsicles.
Students also donated 50 cents to vote for the teacher that they wanted to see kiss a goat. Winning teachers were Coach Todd Briley, Emily Prince and Katherine Burns. Kids who voted also got their names put into a drawing for the opportunity to throw a pie in one of the winning teachers' faces.
On the day of the Relay, their team will be selling popcorn, cotton candy, light-up and glow-in-the-dark novelties.
Relay for Life will be held at 6 p.m. on May 9 at Bastrop High School and the theme for this year is Mardi Gras. The money raised from the event goes to the American Cancer Society.
