Bastrop 11, Claiborne Christian 1

Jerry Powell went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run as Bastrop downed Claiborne Christian 11-1 Saturday afternoon.

Leading 4-0, the Rams (11-15) put the game away with four in the top of the fifth.

Powell's dinger, Dollar Ridgell's RBI single and Cody Kinnaird's sacrifice fly highlighted the outburst as the Rams widened the difference to 9-0.

CCS (13-5) broke up the shutout with a run in the bottom of the fourth, before Bastrop wrapped up the scoring with single tallies in the fifth and seventh.

Winning pitcher Tristen Shanks allowed one run on four hits through 4 2/3 innings. The junior righthander struck out six and walked one. Josh Bradbury came on in the fifth to strike out the only batter he faced. Closing out the game on the mound for the Rams, Khayree Robinson struck out two in two innings of one-hit, scoreless relief.

Bastrop out-hit the Crusaders 13-5. Powell led the way with a homer, two singles and two runs scored. Gavin Pollock went 3-for-5 with an RBI, Maclendon Sharp tripled and singled, Shanks singled twice, Kylan Ricks was 1-for-1 with a double, a sac fly and three walks and Ridgell and Kevin Alfaro singled.

Andrew Holmes went 3-for-3 with a double to pace the Crusaders, Drake Welsey doubled and Dylan Ogle singled.

Wesley, the first of three CCS pitchers, was dealt the loss.

Bastrop is back in action at home Thursday at 6 p.m. vs. West Ouachita.

Notes: With the victory, Bastrop matched its season-high four-game winning streak. ... The game represented the second end of a double header for the District 2-B champion Crusaders, who dropped a 12-8 decision to Sterlington earlier in the day.
