“The Krewe of Who wants a cure for here, a cure for there, we want a cure for everywhere! We believe that as educators of young children, we should teach children the importance of helping others,” Lois Jordan, Director at the Prep Center, said about the center's Relay for Life team efforts to raise money for the fight against cancer.

The Prep Center settled on the Krewe of Who as a team name to coordinate with the school's year-long theme of Dr. Seuss.

Laura Fowler is serving as the group's captain this year – the center's third year of participation – and under her guidance the school has pursued fundraising efforts aimed at involving the children at the center in the fight against cancer.

“All three years we have collected 'Penny Sacks' to give the children a chance to help reach our goal. This year our Pre-K 4 classes took our 'Penny Sack' collection to another level,” Jordan said, “We challenged them to individually bring the most change and winners got to be King and Queen of the class for the day. Our Pre-K 4 classes alone raised a total of $1,009 towards our team’s goal.”

'Penny Sack' collections are ongoing, and the class that raises the most money will receive a party as a congratulations.

The Easter bunny also stopped by on April 17 during the center's annual egg hunt to help raise money. Students took individual portraits with the bunny, and photo proceeds will go toward the center's Relay for Life goal.

On the night of the event, the team plans to sell Frito chili pies, offer face painting and set up a photo booth.

Relay for Life will be held at 6 p.m. on May 9 at Bastrop High School.
