It was a circus of a time at Le Grand Nursing Home Friday, April 15.

Activities Director Cynthia Hubbard organized a circus day for residents with a big screen showing of “The Moscow Circus, Animals Under the Big Top.” The theater setting was complete with dimmed lights and a sign with flashing lights just above the entrance doors that read “AJ Grand Theater 1:30 Showing Moscow Circus.”

“I enjoyed [the circus],” resident Betty Kelly said. “It took me back to when I was a little kid.”

“The Moscow Circus,” which Hubbard ordered to give residents a look into a real circus, features animal trainers, cossack horse riders, acrobats and exotic animals such as elephants, seals and leopards. The 30 minute program includes six different type of acts including monkeys and ponies, elephant acts, seals, chicken and goose act, monkey on ice, leopards and horses and a dog act.

Hubbard and her circus assistant, Johnny Benton, dressed up as clowns for the event and greeted residents with balloons and smiley face stickers.

The circus feel was added to with themed refreshments including hot dogs , soda, roasted peanuts and popcorn.

“I loved it,” resident Verdell Thomas said. “I loved the clowns, the animals and the hot dogs. It was fun. Everything was just really nice.”
