Neville 14, Bastrop 5
Thomas Green and Brian Barefoot both went 3-for-4 as Neville handled Bastrop 14-5 Friday night at Baron Ballpark.
With the victory, the Tigers (17-10, 7-0) clinched the series, having won Game 1, 5-3, Thursday night at Embanato Field. The series finale will be played Saturday at 2 p.m. at Baron Ballpark.
Neville led from the outset.
Nick Whitaker started the game off with a base hit to center, stole second, escaped a rundown on Barefoot's fielder's choice grounder and completed the circuit on Michael Green's RBI single to left.
Neville stretched its lead to 3-0 with a deuce in the third.
Thomas Green walked, pilfered second and third and continued home on a throwing error.
Barefoot followed with a two-hopper off the left field wall for a two-bagger, moved to third on a wild pitch and tallied as Thomas Nickelson was safe on the second of five Ram errors.
Bastrop scratched for a run in the bottom of the third when Khayree Robinson drew a one-out walk, moved to second on Cody Kinnaird's base hit, advanced to third when Tristen Shanks grounded into a force play and touched home as Jerry Powell found the hole between third and short for a base hit.
Four straight Tigers reached base after the first two batters went down in order during a three-run fourth.
Thomas Green, Barefoot and Michael Green laced consecutive singles and Nickelson was safe on a two-base error as Neville widened the spread to 6-1.
Bastrop drew within 6-2 on Cody Kinnaird's two-out, bases-loaded infield single in the home half of the fourth, but Neville starter Alex Prince was able to minimize the damage when right fielder Curphy Hardin flagged down a fly ball to deep right for the third out.
Putting the game away, Neville struck for five runs on six hits in the sixth. Barefoot's two-run double and Nickelson's RBI single highlighted the outburst as the Tigers built an 11-2 margin.
Bastrop closed out the scoring with two in the sixth and one in the seventh, sandwiched around a three-run Neville seventh.
Prince went five-plus innings for the win, with Cole Tracy and J.T. Jackson closing it out.
Barefoot finished the evening with two doubles, a single, three RBI and three runs scored. Thomas Green produced a double and two singles, while scoring four runs and stealing three bases. Rounding out the 15-hit offensive, Nickelson drove in three runs with a double and a single, Whitaker, Michael Green and Dixon Houston singled twice and Hardin supplied a base hit.
Bastrop collected 10 hits — all singles — but stranded 10 base runners. Kinnaird, Gavin Pollock and Kevin Alfaro had two singles apiece, with base hits by Powell, Maclendon Sharp, DeCartizae Pates and Skadarryo Johnson.
Shanks absorbed the loss for the Rams, with Cameron Freeze and Robinson finishing up.
