Riser Middle School Meet

Ja'Kiya White won two individual races and was part of a first-place relay team as Delta Magnet finished second in the team standings at the Riser Middle School track & field meet.

A seventh grader, White won the 400 meters and 800m. She began competing at the junior high level in the third grade, placing second in the 800m dash and third in the 400m in her first meet. Now White is seeking to complete her fourth straight undefeated season in both races as she prepares for the Bastrop/Delta Relays on Thursday, April 17 at Bastrop High.

White, Arlana Miller, Nautica Caldwell and Jakira Langham teamed up to win the 4 x 400m relay.

Delta also received first-place points from Miller in the long jump and Tiffany Washington in the 200m dash.

Placing runner-up in individual events for the Lady Mustangs were Mikayla Rayford in the shot put, Caldwell in the 800m and Langham in the 400m.

Delta crossed the finish line second in the 4 x 200m relay and third in the 4 x 100m relay.

Moving the stick for the Lady Mustangs in the 4 x 200m were White, Washington, Caldwell and Miller, with Washington, Glasha Jackson, Langham and Miller toting the baton in the 4 x 100m.

Delta collected three first-place medals in the boys' meet.

Tyrus Walker was a double winner in the long jump and the 100m dash, while Linton Johnson set the standard in the 800m run.

Placing second for the Mustangs were Jathan Peoples in the 1600m and Tyree Bryant in the shot put.

Johnny Burrell was third in the 200m dash.

Delta recorded third-place finishes in all three relay events.

Johnny Burrell, Charles Paige, Jayden Duncan and Johnson comprised the 4 x 100m and 4 x 200 relay units.

Handling the stick for the Mustangs in the 4 x 400m were Paige, Duncan, Jabez Thompson and Walker.
