  • ULM’s Samantha Hamby was named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week for her outstanding performance Saturday against Troy.
A redshirt senior, Hamby was 2-0 on the day, scattering a combined seven hits in 13 innings of work while fanning nine.
She allowed just two hits in a career-high nine innings in game one against the Trojans. The West Ouachita product tossed 4.1 innings before allowing her first hit. She struck out six, which was more than any other previous Sun Belt start combined this season.
Hamby worked out of two bases-loaded jams in relief in Saturday’s nightcap, allowing just one run on five hits in four innings. She did not allow an extra-base hit all weekend long.
This is the first time Hamby has garnered Pitcher of the Week honors in her career. It is also the first time any Warhawk has won a weekly conference award since Brianna Love won player of the week in March 2011 and the first time a Warhawk pitcher has won the award since Lindsay Rittenhouse-Becton did so in February 2007.
Hamby and the rest of the Warhawks return to action Saturday against Western Kentucky for a double header beginning at 2 p.m.
