Sterlington 5, Oak Grove 0

Sterlington plated four runs in the bottom of the third to back the complete game five-hit pitching of Spencer Davis in a 5-0 District 2-2A triumph over Oak Grove on Thursday night.

Davis allowed base runners in every inning except the third, but permitted only two Tigers past second base.

Davis pitched his way into and out of trouble in the top of the third. Chase Cockrell and Cole Pippen drew back-to-back two out walks and Mickey Broadway singled to load the bases. Escaping the inning unscathed, Davis induced an inning-ending ground ball to shortstop Devon Murphy.

Sterlington (14-5, 4-0) put up a four-spot in the home half of the third.

Elliot Courson opened the outburst with a base hit and moved into scoring position on Dalton Dopson's sacrifice bunt. Back to the top of the order, Austin Haman singled and made his way to second on a passed ball, leaving runners at second and third.

Austin Mills then drove in Courson with a base hit.

Later in the inning, Tyler Buffington reached on an error and Kyle Vandergracht drew a bases loaded walk to put the Panthers up 4-0.

Buffington accounted for the game's final run with a leadoff home run in the fifth.

Buffington finished the evening with a homer and a double and Haman, Mills, Courson and Dopson singled.

Chase Cockrell went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles for Oak Grove and Sam Philley and Ry Clark singled.

Pippen went the distance in defeat for the Tigers (12-6, 1-1).
