  • Bastrop man arrested for kidnapping

  • A Bastrop man was jailed Monday on charges of simple kidnapping and theft following an investigation in which he was identified as a suspect.
    Dustin Swopes, 12379 Crossett Hwy., was named as a suspect in a March 27 theft of tires and rims valued at $1,500. Deputies with the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office located Swopes at a residence on Scotty Lane and the stolen merchandise was visible in the truck bed of his vehicle. Swopes was placed under arrest for the theft as well as for two counts of failure to appear.
    As the investigation continued, Swopes was also named as the suspect in a kidnapping which also took place on March 27.
    A complaint was received on that date, with the victim stating Swopes had taken her against her will following an argument. Witness statements confirm that the victim was taken without her permission to a secondary location. Swopes was additionally charged with simple kidnapping.
    Several drug arrests were also made Monday by agents with the Northeast Louisiana Drug Enforcement Bureau.
    A tip regarding drug activity on Jamar Street had agents in the area when they observed a suspected drug trade inside a vehicle. As they approached the vehicle, the driver, identified as Quenon Jimmerson, 126 Parker St., put the vehicle in drive and attempted to leave the area. The vehicle was stopped and Jimmerson was placed under arrest. Agents noticed he was having trouble speaking, which led to a clear plastic bag of suspected crack cocaine being found in his mouth.
    A passenger in the vehicle, identified as Hozel Haynes, 1406 Martin Luther King South, was removed from the vehicle and searched as well. Haynes was holding a brown cigarette containing suspected marijuana. Darron Mason, 6848 Gabe Rd., was identified as the backseat passenger and a search conducted on him revealed a metal pipe commonly used to smoke crack cocaine.
    Jimmerson was arrested on charges of distribution of schedule II narcotics (crack cocaine), conspiracy to distribute schedule II narcotics, obstruction of justice and possession of drug paraphernalia. Haynes was charged with possession of schedule I narcotics with intent to distribute, conspiracy to distribute of schedule II narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mason was charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule II narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. All three were placed in the Morehouse Parish jail.
