Library patrons can take free language classes online through the library's website.
The Morehouse Parish Library's website features a link to Louisiana Library Connections which has many resources including Mango Languages. Mango languages offers 57 courses for English speakers, 17 courses for non-English speakers and four religious/scholarly courses for English speakers.
“As many of you know, language courses can be very expensive,” library director Ellen Highsmith said, “But you have 57 varieties at your fingertips through your local library. Maybe soon I will be able to get beyond Hola. The program records your pronunciations to compare with the teacher's. This is a great free database brought to us by the State Library databases. Morehouse Parish would not be able to afford a program like Mango Languages. We thank the State Library for allowing us access to such an educational program.”
To log in, visit www1.youseemore.com/morehouse and click “LA State Library Connection.” Type in your library card number. It will then go to a list of resources. Scroll down to click on Mango Languages. From there, log in or sign up for an account.
There are also apps available through Google Play or the Apple App Store that allows patrons the opportunity to learn a language on the go.
Library Connections also has several other databases that can be accessed including articles on health and medicine; children's books, audio children's books; scholarly articles from educational, medical and academic journals; ACT, GRE, GED and LEAP prep and encyclopedias.
