  • A Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest of a sex offender who, after further investigation, was also a suspect in the break-in of a Bastrop home.
Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office Major Rose Worley said a tip was received March 22 regarding the whereabouts of Carlos Atkins, 35, 106 S. Alvin, who was wanted for failure to register as a sex offender. MSPO investigators along with Bastrop Police Department officers went to a local bar and located Atkins, who was apprehended without incident. Upon his arrest, further charges with the BPD for failure to appear and failure to pay fine were discovered.
Information was later learned regarding Atkin's possible involvement in the home burglary, in which several electronic devises and jewelry were taken. During questioning by BPD Det. Eric Newnum, Atkins admitted to being in the residence, which led to his arrest for simple burglary.
He remains in the Morehouse Parish jail.
Also over the weekend, a Crime Stoppers tip resulted in the arrest of Marcus Martin, 622 E. Cypress, who was wanted for a warrant on charges of violation of a protective order, second offense review.
MPSO Lt. Libby Brixey, Sgt. Rebecca Wallace and BPD officers located Martin and placed him in the Morehouse Parish jail.
"These cases once again prove that Crime Stoppers works to help solve crimes as well as remove criminals from the streets," Worley said.
