A Bastrop Enterprise reader recently discovered this coyote in their front yard. While it is unknown if the animal has caused any problems with neighbor pets, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fishery website states that the degree to which coyotes cause problems varies by location, season and the individual coyote. Coyotes are omnivores and typically eat anything from chickens and turkeys up to pigs, goats and calves. In more urban seatings they will prey on small domestic dogs and cats. Although unusual, coyotes may become bold enough to attack young children, and several such incidents have been reported in various states. They may regularly raid neighborhood garbage cans as well.
