The Morehouse Heritage Parade will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 25.

The theme for this year's parade is "Back to Family and Community" and "Changing Lives One Day at a Time." The parade will start at the Old Walmart across from McDonald's and end at Baron Ballpark. According to Parade Coordinator Pamela Benton, there are 52 entries so far. The parade will have several cartoon characters including Dora, Spongebob and Mickey Mouse.

"It's going to be a day for family fun," Benton said.

Mayor Arthur Jones will serve as grand marshal and lead the parade. Other elected city officials will also be in attendance. The Morehouse Motorbike Club is going to participate and the Riding Club will also be there.

There will also be a Battle of the Bands following the parade which will be held in the Bastrop High School gymnasium. There are six bands signed up already from Texas, Baston Rouge, Lake Providence, Madison, Rayville, Wossman and Richwood High Schools.

"I'm really looking forward to it," Kathy Nimmer, member of the coordinating committee said.

Applications for parade entries are now available. The deadline is Jan. 22 and the fee is $25 for an entry. For more information or to get an application, contact Benton at 791.4312, Nimmer at 261.9268 or Tangela Green at 789.9399.
